01:      Is trek to Everest Base Camp hard?
Ans:    Not that hard and tough that one would expect which totally depends upon the itinerary designed or provided by local or abroad agents.

We at Himalaya Guide. Com has set the programs to Everest Base Camp studying the nature of all types of interested trekkers and travelers with flexible itinerary days, with enough space for acclimatization against High Altitude Symptoms or AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness).

Which is common and natural around high altitude treks above 3,000 m or 10,000 ft where some trekkers might catch early symptoms of AMS, but taking slow pace with enough short stops to catch your breath and as well enjoying the surroundings scenery will support and helps you to overcome the high altitude sickness.

04:      How far is Everest base camp from Lukla?
Straight from Lukla town airport to Everest base camp is about 38.04 kms and 24 miles, walking distance comes to about 55 k.ms or 34.05 miles.

Which is 6 to 7 days from Lukla to Everest base camp, but taking time to enjoy with rest and acclimatization to support your physical level against high altitude taking 8 days, with rest in two high places at Namche and Dingboche before reaching at Everest base camp.

However on return journey back to Lukla from base camp or Gorakshep one can reach within 3-4 days walking mostly on downhill with few short ups in some sections.

05:      Has anyone died trekking to Everest Base Camp?
Not common but with overall history on commercial trekking few trekkers have died on route to Everest base camp.

Few trekkers who have died are FIT (Free individual Trekkers / Travelers) who have trekked on their own not joining with local agents and without guides or porters. Who had pushed much harder on high altitude in a hurry not having enough rest days to support acclimatization?

Trekkers who died happened during last past decades of time, at present due to easy Tele-communication systems all around the lodge and guest houses, where one can get help for immediate emergency evacuation on helicopter to reach at safe places or back to Kathmandu.

At present due to easy available of local airlines chopper for rescue where death on Everest Base Camp Trekking has minimized almost nil / none.

06:      How cold is it at Everest Base Camp?
Depends upon time of seasons for trekking to Everest base camp March to May is much warmer than other months of the year due to spring and per-summer, where days are with enough sunlight hours, from late morning till late afternoon.

However can get chilly and cold in the morning and night time as well in shady areas away from sunlight.

During spring time of March to May will be Maximum Temperature of 18-25 degree Celsius in the sun, with minimum temperatures of -5 to + 02 degree Celsius. Depends upon various altitude places.

Chances of snow sometimes during the walks.

The other best months from mid-September to December during autumn / fall and pre winter where temperatures are mild with clear sunny days for views and walks but with short day lights.

Where minimum temperatures falls to -05 to -10 degree Celsius above 4,000 m higher without counting extra cold from wind-chill factor with chances of snow sometimes during walks.

One can trek in winter time as well from December to February where most days are crystal clear but with freezing cold in the morning and night times but with starry clear nights.

07:      When is the best time for trek to Everest Base Camp?
Ans:    The best time would be from March to May months of the year during spring time when days are longer with enough sunshine from early morning till late afternoon time and much warmer than other time of the year.

Where lower mid hills till Tengboche Monastery are bright with wild flowers in seasonal bloom especially the rhododendron flowers of different species from tall trees to short bushes.

Someday weather can get overcast around late afternoon bringing wind-chill factor on exposed open areas.

Other best times from September to mid-December where days are crystal clear most of the days till mid-afternoon with pleasant day for walks and scenic views can be freezing cold in early morning and night times, can expect snow sometimes during walk around high altitude.

08:      Do you need to train for Everest Base Camp?
Certainly it will add a great advantage to yourself with good exercise and training before or after booking the trek to Everest base camp.

As you are well informed the Nepal and all Himalaya countries including Everest Base Camp Trekking region involves much of steep uphill climb and long downhill walks, in this case if you are strong and in good physical shape with sound medical health will you cope with high altitude and rough terrain walks.

We suggest that before planning and booking the trek to Everest base camp it would be best with good physical training and exercise like jogging, walking up and downstairs, swimming and aerobic also helps you to keep fit for the trek to Everest base camp.

09:      Can you trek Everest base camp without a guide?
Yes you can trek to Everest base camp without taking a guide, where most FIT (Free Individual Trekkers / Travelers) have done son, since past decades till present, due to availability and excellent facilities of nice lodge with friendly hospitality and services of local villagers. It might be cheaper for you and adding adventure without the company of guide or porters.

But there are few factor and circumstances that might be taking a big risk and a challenge, trekking on your own without proper guide you will be missing great opportunity, where you will lack good information of the local cultures and custom and even can get lost not finding the right trail sometimes in snow conditions.

If you get sick from AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness) or with other health problem it will be a great serious circumstance when some local villagers or lodge owners that you stay do not understand or cannot communicate with you better.
